It is a general tendency not to use car mats in the trunk. For most people, the purpose of using mats on the floor is to keep it clean. For them it is a device to keep the floor safe from rust and dust. The other factor behind using car mats is to make the floor look attractive. However costly a car may be, its floor generally does not remain attractive. So, putting some mats on the floor glamorises the interior of the car.
This is probably the reason why many people do not use any car accessories in the trunk of the car. But I think it is a good idea to use car mats in the boot as they serve two purposes there. They keep the floor safe in the similar way the keep the other part of the floor. And at the same time, they keep tight grip on goods there so that they are damaged by the shaking and jerking.
So, next time you buy car mats, think of selecting some for the boot of the car.
